About Us

The residents association was set up to be a collective voice for residents who are concerned about the impact of the new housing estate of 97 homes, in particular on the safety of the road.  We have set up this website to communicate our concerns to residents and to help them with the planning public consultation.

We support building new houses in Brentwood and we support the creation of more affordable housing.  We do not object to the site of the combined fields at 61a being developed for new housing.  Our objective is to ensure that the safety concerns of the residents are heard and taken into account.

As residents of Priests Lane we know that the road is very busy and congested at rush hour.  The 20mph is ineffective and the long queues at Middleton Hall Lane result in high pollution counts.

We want the new housing development to be built with a regard to the safety concerns of residents who live in the area and without unnecessarily worsening the road conditions.  We are also concerned with the loss of green environment, especially the destruction of one of the heritage oak tree.

About Priests Lane development

Priests Lane is an historic lane connecting the towns of Brentwood and Shenfield. It is an old road and has a number of very old trees, especially oak trees that are more than 100 years old.

It is now a busy through way for town traffic and treated as a local distributor road by Essex County Council. It is subject to heavy queuing traffic at rush hour and the new 20 mph is largely ignored.

The site of the new housing estate was an old school playing field that was no longer being used, but was a protected open urban space. The residents lobbied for the site to be retained as an open urban space, but this was removed when the site was included for development in the Local Development Plan together with a second adjacent site at the end of Bishop Walk.

Many residents commented at the LDP stage, and although the Council originally proposed 45 homes, this was increased on appeal to around 75 home for the combined sites.   The developers have disregarded the original allocation and propose 97 homes, and so we must again communicate our concerns to our Councillors.
